It's amazing how much this saying has been abused in the internet age.

"Toeing the line" means someone is testing the limits of something by going all the way up to the "too far" line, but not going over it. Just putting their toe nearly on the line rather than over it. Like a Resetera user being almost anti-Semitic prior to yesterday, but pulling it back just before calling all Jews Nazis.

"Towing the line" in this internet age seems to have been adopted as a way of accusing someone of following the rules, but maybe slightly against their will.

You’re right about the misspelling, but to toe the line does mean to stay in formation as part of the group. Like a lot of phrases it’s naval in origin, from the literal line that sailors form up on.

I thought for sure it was for runners or athletes at their starting position, toeing right up to where the line is but not crossing it, putting your toe on it to start as far forward as possible but still be within the legal rules

Seems both are right. I stand corrected. When I leaned the term, it was definitely used as the alternative sporting reference of not breaking the rules but getting as close to it as possible.

i went to a taping once. a guy lost 500 bucks by going for a different choice and only won fifty bucks. during the break, drew was trying to reassure him with 'think of it this way - you had fifty bucks more than you had this morning!' i got the impression he really wanted everyone to win and do well.

There was a Halloween episode once that was wrestling themed, and Drew was playing the typical heel, but immediately broke character within the first game because he wants everyone to win, lol.

The Drew Carey Show had an entire episode where every single character on the show identified as conservative and was arguing about how to be a good conservative, with the issue ultimately resolved by a special guest appearance from Rush Limbaugh. The first major story arc on the show is a multiple episodes long tirade against political correctness.

If memory serves, he's also a libertarian who describes the movement as conservatives who smoke pot.

I no longer have a disc drive despite being a launch PS5 owner back in the day so I had to buy Yōtei at full price, but it seems worth it so far

I'm enjoying my ghost of Yōtei on my AYN Thor using PS remote play

 

The game could run and look equally well (if not better given the RT boost) on a RTX 4070.
