I just love how The Martian book came out back in 2011, the movie in 2015 and now with Project Hail Mary the book in 2021 with the movie last week…and yet not a peep from them at all about Weir’s INSANELY RACIST AND MISOGYNISTIC VIEWS OMG RAGE were ever a thing until this interview. 

These Era posters just have nothing going on in life, just latching onto what’s popular to hate right now because the movie just came out and is insanely popular and successful. 

Wondering at this point when they’ll openly say it’s gonna be ok to bully the kids playing Harry/Hermione/Ron in the new Harry Potter series. It’s definitely coming. That hilariously hypocritical Verge article posted further up the page is just the start of it.

His character writing is super Reddit/Tumblr style and definitely the sort of thing that's made fun of with ready player one. His big saving grace is however the kind of scenarios he comes up with and how well researched and grounded all the science of it appears. It's rare to have such a big divide between character writing and plot writing but it's good enough that I can't dismiss him as bad writer.

I don't really care what Weir's politics are. Worse for me is him enjoying the content of someone who just.....sucks at reviewing movies and seemingly hates movies to begin with. He legitimately dislikes a significant about of entertainment because of his own politics, which is small-brained.

drinker is a thoughtful guy who cares about writing (he's a published author) and if a movie is "woke" but has good writing anyway he will say so and give it a good review, there are a number of times he's said yeah at the risk of my audience turning on me I was totally fine with this film

the problem is that so many films DO sacrifice writing for "the message" and end up being nonsensical or full of holes, he has valid justification for each of his takes

The Martian and Project Hail Mary are great novels. Hes only written 3 books. Artemis being in between those two. Never read it but probably pretty telling its by far the lowest rated and skipped over for movie treatment.

AOC's reasoning

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s amendment does nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor end the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza. Of course I voted against it.

What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dome capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue.

I have long stated that I do not believe that adding to the death count of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end. That is a simple and clear difference of opinion that has long been established.

I remain focused on cutting the flow of US munitions that are being used to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza.

Sorry but even voting for the "Defense" of Israel is voting for the deaths of Palestinians when they cannot defend against Israel.
