Resident Evil gets its console sales predictions thread, which anyone can figure out to be a coin flip. So I don't really get the point of that, but okay. And then the actual results thread, which will be one of many just turns into "how dare you imply the Switch 2 version just did okay" / "lol Xbox".

At this point, I can just stay out of it, but I wish third parties could be our break from this shit, but people still have to make it about their platform for any kind of win. And I'm just wondering how does that not count.

People aren't exactly subtle, practically wearing their biases on their forehead proclaiming perceived victories while complaining about one system still even getting games. Its like, like what you like, but at our ages, it's like why ... are we doing this? For what?

Something I've noticed happening more and more lately is people being called "corporate bootlickers" for a variety of reasons. It happened in the FRLG threads to those who said they are fine with the price. It happened in the BluePoint/Bloodborne thread when people said they'd like a remake/remaster despite From's/Miyazaki's wishes. It also happened in the Myrient game preservation thread, like this post:

It's usually not directed at specific posters that are quoted. Rather a blanket "calling out half the thread without naming anyone in particular" manner. Is this something that should be reported? Is that something we just ignore as petty insults? What's the etiquette?

I'd be up for having this conversation as well if we could actually elaborate on those "variety of reasons" and post examples of the defenses made that proceeded those statements. IE the locked the Pokemon thread where the user was criticizing having to buy in multiple languages and people just jumped on them for having the nerve.



We act like people don't pushback harshly on others on the basis that the company they like is being criticized, which they make clear themselves.

That's quite the mischaracterization of that thread. Most people, even the "Nintendo fanboys" acknowledged that every language was its own SKU was shitty. Some people rightfully mentioned that you could never change languages in a Pokémon game, after some claimed that they'd like to play the game in three different languages. Others explained why they were fine with the price. And quite a few people made light-hearted jabs at the OP for creating another thread while there was a 39-pages long thread active at that time, where that whole thing was discussed at length. Funnily enough you were one of the posters in there who jumped into a conversation, quoted a comment of mine and completely mischaracterized it because you didn't take the time to read what led to the conversation I was having, and you didn't understand the context lol



Furthermore, I don't think there's ever really a situation on gaming site where it is appropriate to accuse other users of being "corporate bootlickers". That's simply not something that is ever done in good faith. I don't care if diehard fans are obnoxious or overzealous with their defense. There is plenty of disingenuousness going around, so resorting to "corporate bootlicking" in a thread about freaking videogames is simply 
childish in my opinion.

I picked up this book with some previous engagement with solarpunk fiction and having read the author’s work in a short story anthology or two. I’m always keen to pick up a book on magic / Paganism / craft practice that has an explicitly social justice angle as I want to have books like this to recommend to others when they ask.

What I liked: Norton-Kertson has written a book that would work for a witch new to solarpunk OR for a solarpunk enthusiast new to witchcraft; the fact that they’ve done both here is, I think, impressive. They provide clear definitions and lots of supplemental reading suggestions. It is definitely a beginner-leaning text but I have some familiarity with both topics and still found interesting ideas to consider. I am grateful to Norton-Kertson for situating themselves in terms of their identities, cosmologies, and traditions, and for solidly taking an antifascist, anti-oppressive position throughout, making a number of good points with respect to how this kind of position can intersect with solarpunk + magical practice. I never thought I’d get to see the phrase ‘diversity of tactics’ in a craft book and so I’m grateful for that inclusion even if I might’ve said something different about it. I think the author strikes a good balance between openness (ie. ‘do what works for you’) and instruction. I appreciate Norton-Kertson’s emphasis on doing tangible non-magical work – picking up trash, engaging in protest, supporting social justice organizations – as vital to creating change. I also like their emphasis on ethically sourcing ritual tools. They include a lot of great citations and links to relevant sources, and they also include a resource list encompassing witchcraft, solarpunk, and social justice texts.

What didn’t really work for me: There was a throwaway sentence early on asserting that “most witches and magickal practitioners believe” they are “bound by the Law of Threefold Return;” I do not for one second think that this claim about “most” can be supported with evidence, and I don’t think it’s needed in order for the author to state what their own ethics are. This feels like a bit of a slip-up considering the relatively consistently solid citation of sources otherwise. There are a few places where lists like “Pagan, New Age, and witchcraft” seem to conflate things that can, in practice, be quite different in ways that are meaningful. One spell suggests using a fire pit and lighting a small fire in the context of working against forest fires – where I live that’d be unlawful (we tend to be under fire bans if wildfires are a concern) and I do question how advisable it is to have any fire outside during an active fire season. Finally, this is a personal gripe, but I really wish that social justice conscious craft books would stop spelling magic with a ‘k’ given that the author who is the source of that spelling was decidedly neither feminist nor anti-racist (indeed, he was quite the opposite).

Despite 68 years of blockade and embargo from the USA, there are so many accomplishments Cuba has been able to make for its people such as free education, free universal healthcare, free childcare, affordable housing, and full literacy under socialism. This video was released a couple of weeks ago, but it will continue to be relevant. I hope this informs people who weren't aware and no longer fall for the red scare propaganda.

We are actively trying to decouple ourselves from the US as much as possible. Also, I'd like to add another point that I imagine they didn't make because they haven't lived it: Cuba is insanely important to LatAm countries. Even though recent far right reactionism has attacked that, it's always been almost a part of a international latino struggle against U.S imperialism. I think most people can talk about even right leaning politicians in their respective countries that were often sympathetic to Cuba because of what it represents. I surely know of some here in my own country, it's crazy

For my family, who weren't land owners and were only getting by just alright, yes they were. I never cared for picking Norse as the next setting. It doesn't seem "right" at all from starting in Greece. Kratos should have never traveled far from the Mediterranean.
