But in all seriousness, Pokemon is fantastic. A lot of older players like myself enjoy it.

A more vocal segment of the older players expect more from Pocket Monsters, and they complain about it. Another segment of players just hate everything for the sake of hating it and will use any excuse possible to be negative about stuff. I think those last two segments gas each other up and turn into a big ball of negative energy. Nitpicking tiny things and blowing them out of proportion.

The truth is, these are vocal BUT insignificant voices. These games sell. They sell to everyone. From kids to discerning "Gamer ™" enthusiast types simply because they are fun. Playing them is an enjoyable use of your time. No amount of added ray tracing will make it more fun to figure out what berries to feed your winged lizard. No amount of voice acting will make it more or less enjoyable to throw your sentient radish at a deformed cat that shoots fireballs.

The sales numbers speak to that.
People vote with their wallets more than with their mouths.

It just gives more of a reason for the vocal minority of complainers to get louder.

This is a real life example of that "Quit having fun!" meme from social media.

Yeah I'm having a lot of fun with it so far. Thought going into it that limiting the game to the city only would be boring as hell but it seems diverse enough, and I much prefer this battle system to the turn-based stuff.

Some of the NPC dialogue is unhinged and funny as fuck too.

Battle system is actually good too, surprisingly so

I've not played a Pokemon game since Sword/Shield. Tried to find a cheap copy of Scarlet/Violet since it got a Switch 2 patch but it was still pretty expensive everywhere.

Have to say, it'll be hard to go back to the mainline games after this. I like the structure of it being split into main missions and side missions and just doing things at your on pace rather than being railroaded into the story.

My take is that this is a good action game, but a bad Ninja Gaiden game. I didn't really expect to hit the credits with my right hand hurting from all the mashing I had to do. I expect to feel immersed in combat situations that make me feel pressure because the enemy AI is so intelligent. I expect a little exploration, some puzzles... but this game felt like a mashfest against spongy enemies and that's not really the Ninja Gaiden vibe I seek.

This game did one thing... it got me to replay Ninja Gaiden Black and I'm having a blast.

I'm going to die because the government won't give me carbohydrates.

PC more lately since I have a 4080. I do still play games on my PS5 like maybe Trails 1st and exclusives. Same for Switch 2. My Series X is collecting dust until I want to play some backwards compatible games. I wish they'd make them available on PC so I can just sell the thing.
