My entire family blocked me from talking about any of this. My friends yell at me and tell me they don't care and don't want to hear about it. Years ago, early on in the first term I had already been describing what was happening with US conservatives and Donald Trump as a fascist movement. And I had a former super close friend straight up gaslight me to my face about it all in personal, one-on-one conversations. I will distinctly never forget the bald face lying and uncomfortable squirming. And I'll never forget one of the distinct gaslighting phrases used in particular:

Will never forget the shit. Never ever. Forever seared into my brain. It was like a metaphorical self-immolation moment for this person and their reputation. Like I was Obi Wan Kenobi and I was watching Darth Vader burn alive on the lava shores of Mustafar.

In the years since, I've basically jettisoned myself from any former social connections, it's incredibly sad. Because the fascist lust truly runs deep, even when people try incredibly hard to maintain their facades. People just cannot help but let their masks slip; it's just too difficult to keep the hatred fully concealed.

Stupidly ordered a milkshake instead of a Blizzard the last time I was at a Dairy Queen.

I like when dudes brag like this just to expose how behind the trend they were. People were calling Trump a Nazi who was going to end democracy before he even won. It was all over NeoGAF.com even if we're limiting ourselves just to it and its spin-off forums. There were protests against his "fascism" almost immediately. This guy wanders in nearly a decade later to tell everyone how ahead of the curve he was because he didn't see any of that stuff and came to the conclusion on his own independently later. Great thanks.

Also, if you're Obi Wan and you're watching Vader burning: that's your fault. Obi Wan wasn't there for his Padawan and pushed him into the arms of Palpatine by not being understanding of him. Even in that final confrontation Obi Wan does far more provoking than bothering to reason with his already lost friend. The fact that there was a kill on sight order of Jedi that Obi Wan was aware of gave good reason to Anakin to not believe Obi Wan was there for any non-hostile reason, especially considering he has his wife and about to be born children as hostages. We know differently because we know Obi Wan is supposedly a hero, we've seen Anakin just slaughter a bunch of children and the running time of the film is nearing its end, but Anakin doesn't because unlike Obi Wan he trusts Palpatine.
