Red Letter Media
nice lil story

https://www.reddit.com/r/RedLetterMedia/comments/1kxopnf/i_ran_into_mike_at_a_random_bar_he_was_very_nice/

Quote:Waited to post this photo until after I saw them upload a new video. Didn't want to blow up their spot or anything.

Either way, due to an insane set of circumstances, Mike sat literally right next to me at a bar. I was pretty drunk at this point and talking to someone I had just met, and I turned to my left and my brain genuinely broke. In my stupor, I asked "Mike??" and he turned and said "yes?"

At this point, I'm genuinely so confused and wondering if I've completely lost my mind, so I just said I wanted to make sure I'm not insane and apologized and tried to go back to the conversation with my new friend.

Mike was incredibly kind and asked what my name was and we got to talking briefly. He was extremely nice, said he was rarely ever stopped in public, and was nice enough to take a pic. I fanboyed pretty hard and was embarrassed by the whole ordeal. I said that it was the greatest day of my life and he said he hoped that wasn't true. The guy I was with was asking what Mike did and him and I looked at each other and Mike responded: "nothing important."

My new friend had all these nerdy tattoos (referring back to the circumstances I mentioned) which included a Star Wars tattoo so I was showing Mike his tattoos as a sort of joke. My friend had a Watchmen tattoo and it was surreal to hear Mike say "Dr. Manhattan" out loud.

This was the first "celebrity" encounter where I was genuinely flustered. If you are reading this Mike, thank you for being so cool!

Quote:That's awesome.

Was this Vegas? I only ask because other posters have said on here that when they've seen RLM out in the wild it was in Las Vegas.

Quote:Yes. It was. I was there for work and I asked him why he was there and he said it was for vacation. I don't like Vegas at all so I was perplexed. I asked if he gambled and he said he did sometimes. Even more perplexing.

Quote:I'm jealous. Did anyone else recognize him? I wonder if he's like a celeb in Milwaukee.

Quote:I asked him if he's ever stopped by "fanatics like me" and he said he's rarely ever stopped in public and also that I'm not a fanatic.

As I said, my default is responding with self-deprecating humor, and that mixed with alcohol made for an embarrassing encounter.

it sounds like mike was with a lady, and probably a lady that fans of RLM would know, which the person is kindly keeping private

Quote:This really doesn't surprise me. They have twisted senses of humor but all the RLM guys come across as genuinely nice, regular ass people. They don't view themselves as "youtube stars" which I think has been pivotal from stopping them from jumping the shark. They also have shared very little about their personal lives which is extremely refreshing for internet personalities. Like I do not want or need to know those things lol.

Quote:Yes. They're extremely closed off with their personal lives which is why I feel like I shouldn't say who he was with particularly.

Quote:I'm sure it's a weird thing to have fans for your YouTube channel. And especially ones that post weird stuff in this subreddit.

They being said, if I met any of the guys, I'd only want to say I enjoy their stuff, and I hope they are still enjoying making it, as much as we are watching it. They seem like a good bunch.

Quote:Yes, the person Mike was with attested to the fact they were freaked out a little by his fans lol

The naruto run comparison doesn't make any sense, the kids are clearly doing an A-pose when they're running.

even cool creators you like can have bad takes

no one is rethinking the acolyte, or to be more precise no proportion of the population worth consideration

what he means is "in the process of making this video I noticed some similarities between the prequels and the acolyte and wanted to list them so I've personally reconsidered the acolyte a little"

which is odd because earlier he just got done saying how new star wars being bad doesn't make the prequels good, so why compare the now-good rethought acolyte to the prequels?

he does not successfully argue here that:
  • the prequels, while bad, were the product of one man's flawed vision
  • the acolyte has many similarities with the prequels
  • therefore the acolyte can be judged as the product of one woman's flawed vision

nor does he manage to successfully argue that "well you guys say you like the prequels now and acolyte is like the prequels so you have to like it also"

fundamentally the RLM guys are misanthropes who tend to look down on the teeming masses of fans and won't take the time to look closer to see if any of them might have any valid points, which is fine, because they have a life and can't be arsed to watch 50 hours of commentary community going in circles on how bad things are now

but this means mike doesn't get that the "bros" don't just want cool lightsaber fights and explosions and omg I recognize that guy

it should be obvious that they don't just want that, because a ton of recent star wars media try to include those things and fail, Ki-Adi-Mundi in acolyte was there for that purpose and they all hated his inclusion, same for entire series like boba fett and obi wan

everyone just wants good writing and practically nothing has been well written in any media for like a decade

fundamentally the main reason that nobody is rethinking the acolyte is because the pace of modern media is such that simply no one has time to go back and watch it again

he also goes in on how nobody cares about shit like whether mr. mundi should be born yet or not, or whether fire can spread in space...but his own prequel videos were full of similar nitpicks, just often from a character motivation angle rather than a factual one

within this video he also lists a lot of nitpicky similarities between acolyte and the prequels as if anyone should care about such things

or is he making the point that a lot of individual details add up to a significant whole, more than the sum of their parts? so why wouldn't that apply to all the other kinds of nitpicks also, mundi's age doesn't matter but if it's one of 1000 things they got wrong, doesn't that add up?

I think the part about Acolyte was basically a bit, pointing out things people could use to defend it in the future, as many of the same arguments were used to defend the prequel trilogy a couple of years ago. The side-by-side comparison is just like the "ring theory" part in one of the older videos. Notice that the Acolyte part starts with a fake screenshot from an article defending the show, dated 2038.

I know it's a bit

it's couched in the idea that it should be or is being reconsidered somehow and isn't as bad as people thought

this is never lampshaded, it is mike's opinion

I felt that Mike is just tired and now more or less gets why people like stuff like the prequels. He still hates it, but at least it tried. It plays with him praising Andor as he says he cannot totally love it because it feel out of place for Star Wars.

If anything, I wish he did a Plinkett review of Rise of Skywalker, but I feel is a touchy subject for him given how much batted for JJ Abrams directing the franchise.

my takeaway from it was that most of modern star wars is fucking trash, but at least its still recognisably star wars trash.

It could be worse. It could be Nu-trek facepalm

Quote:If this video actually shows up in your feed, well then I guess the topic of the video doesn't apply to you? Who knows? We don't know!! We don't normally make videos about this type of stuff but YouTube has been bugging out lately and we decided to sit down and just try to make sense of it. Will it help anybody? Will it get fixed? Is this just the continuing downward spiral of another media platform? Only Lazaris knows for sure!

It was probably the Bitch video what triggered the Zack Snyder Bro A.I
