You know what's a good movie? Six Degrees of Separation. 

Every time I see it (literally I've only ever seen it twice) I wonder why Will Smith didn't do more of this kind of thing in his career. He can really be a phenomenal actor. His "imagination" monologue had me as misty-eyed as Donald Sutherland.



I was joking with my wife that Jada beats him and forces him to only take big money Will Smith-as-Will Smith roles.

Watched Marie Antionette with the wife last night.

I actually watched it in theaters when it came out too. Last night, as in ancient history, I came away with the same impression: what's the point of this movie?

I mean, I get it. The idea seems to be to encourage audiences to check their assumptions about Marie Antionette (and by extension, scions of royalty more generally)--she was just a girl! Married at 14! Insulated from anything other than the hermetic seal of the high court lifestyle! What justice does it serve to hold her accountable?!

And I think that's fine, and I agree...but you get to that conclusion within the first 30 minutes of the movie and then it's just Marie Antoinette doing girly teen girl things for the rest of the runtime. 

I also was reminded of the missed opportunity for additional anachronistic BS. It was certainly marketed a certain way, but aside from some music choices and a shot of a pair of converse, they do very little with that idea.
