I’m of the galaxy brain take that Greedfall is exactly what ultimately killed them. Their games prior to that were linear-ish, wrpg-stripped-of-all-fluff games with meaningful character build choices and a narrative focus.

Greedfall took that and put it in a giant sandbox…which worked (but not for me) exactly once. I think they had their eyes set higher and bigger than what they were good at—including other random genres like SteelRising—and it was just an icarus scenario from there.

Technomancer was good! Of Orcs and Men was very good! I’m bummed they are closed but its pretty obvious to me what happened here.

I played it! It's just like all of their other games...with a bunch of fetch quests and picking up crafting trash all over the place like a million other games. Basically they watered down "the good part" with a bunch of exhausted Big AAA Game Design Features™️, so the ultimate result was like..."what if a Spiders Game, but 50 hours long because of generic playtime padding shit?"

What was good about their other games were how lean they were in every respect.

I've said this before, but developers always think that what will make their game better in a sequel is MOAR MOAR MOAR, when the exact opposite is true.

If you want to make a decent sequel, start by taking out all the shit that didn't quite work in the original and streamline the experience to just the fun stuff. Then maybe add one or two new features/mechanics to freshen things up.

Season 1 is a mixed bad that jumps around in quality but even then, is rarely actively bad. The Muse stuff was a complete bust and the Adam storyline didn't really work but it also had a couple great episodes and the Punisher and White Tiger stuff was really good.

I was surprised that Gundam's creator, Tomino Yoshiyuki (84), made such a bold statement in the May issue of Animage.
He said:
"Even without looking at examples like Nazi Germany, authoritarian regimes are often decided through elections. That's exactly what's happening in Japan right now. A mass of ignorant people is truly troublesome."

He also spoke about Gundam fans:

"Even among Gundam fans, there are many people whose comments are far removed from anti-war thinking. They remain at the level of simply enjoying a military-otaku mindset, and in the end, perhaps nothing essential has been conveyed to them."
He also mentions Putin's responsibility for war and issues with Trump supporters (evangelical Christians).

Director Tomino said something similar on NHK last summer:

"What you hear from (Gundam fans) is 'mobile suit battles are cool.'
Nowadays, younger creators are making Gundam, but there's no sense of real war experience in it. It's completely just a picture-story (fantasy)."
"That is my responsibility for not having taught it properly."  

He will turn 85 this autumn, and it feels like he has started speaking more directly, no longer using indirect language.

[Addendum] In the latter half of the article, Tomino also says:

"Then should we trust intellectuals? There are many cases where the dominance of intellectual elites has led to tragic outcomes."
He points to the purges during the French Revolution, as well as the Russian Revolution and the Khmer Rouge regime, warning about the dangers of communist dictatorships.
So this is not a statement from a simple left-wing perspective.

I was discussing a while ago that this was a major theme of the original series. Even boiling it down to "authoritarianism is bad" is a bit of an oversimplification, because it depicts the people stuck between an authoritarian power that wants to destroy them and a democratic one that is disinterested in them. It's a cynical take on politics in general where the people we sympathize with are at mercy of the political situation that surrounds them - as well as a reflection that World War 2 was a war between the established colonial powers and wannabe colonial powers that were trying to become them.

People complain about Char's Counterattack but it's a decided return to that theme: Amuro tries to criticize Char's politics, but it falls on deaf ears because Char is just yet another example of someone given a ton of political power who is more interested in using it to satisfy his own personal agenda than to benefit the people around him.

But you seem to miss the point about using political discourse to gain political power and justify atrocities.

I'm going to be honest, while I'm glad that the thread was finally locked, I'm honestly a bit uncomfortable that a thread that used a derogatory term used to fetishize and put down trans and intersex people (especially one used as a joke) lasted so long; and that so many people in ERA were okay with it and taking part in it with not much care about the awful nature of the term. Like that really felt like it showed what many people in ERA really think of trans people, a joke, fetish material, that shitty terms against us are okay to use as a joke.

I really wish their was ways to report threads without having to enter threads because I really didn't want to enter it because I knew how bad it'd be and yeah, it was bad.

One of those threads where it didn't take long for it to become apparent that most of the people laughing were cis men and the joke went from 'guy doesn't realise he's referenced futanari' to just finding the idea of trans bodies either gross or funny.
