Freedom of speech is genuinely a bad thing, and I wish more Americans realized that. Public speech should be moderated, and only allowed to flourish when it's undeniably true.

Quote:A recent study published in Personality and Individual Differences suggests that people who believe words can cause lasting psychological damage tend to experience worse mental health.
Quote:The researchers also examined how these beliefs relate to personality traits and social motivations. People with higher scores on the scale rated themselves as being more empathic and agreeable toward others. At the same time, they were more likely to engage in moral grandstanding, which involves sharing moral beliefs to gain social status.
Quote:The study also provides evidence of a link between these beliefs and a person’s sense of victimhood. Individuals who scored high on the scale tended to see themselves as victims in their daily interactions more often than others did. They also reported lower levels of emotional stability, which is a personality trait related to how people handle stress.

Yes, it's basically one party rule. And like any country, it does have problems. It's also smaller, which makes it easier to govern. But it's also rather rich and has a high standard of living.
With Brexit and now Trump in the US, it just seems we never solved the multicultural angle in these places. That said I'm also aware of the history of white colonialism in these countries, that's a hard nut to crack.
What can we learn from Singapore's success with a multicultural society?

Quote:Last week I met a woman. We're the same age and we're in the same profession. Honestly, from the moment I first saw her, I was already thinking about how I could introduce myself. Somehow it actually happened and we ended up meeting.
Our first conversation lasted about two hours and it went much better than I expected.
She's really intelligent and very fun to talk to. We also have very similar taste in TV shows. I recommended a few shows to her and asked for some recommendations from her as well. After about two hours she said she had to leave, and I told her I could walk her to the metro. She said it wasn't necessary, but I told her getting some fresh air would be good for me anyway.
While we were walking to the metro we were joking around and the atmosphere was really nice. Just as I was about to head back, I turned around one more time and looked at her again. I don't know if that was the right thing to do, but I was honestly really impressed by her.
We agreed to meet again in about 10 days. Normally I wouldn't wait that long, but I have an important exam in next week. Two days later I called her and we talked for more than an hour. I genuinely enjoy talking to her and I'd like to spend more time with her. Our plan for Friday is still on.
Now I have a few questions on my mind. I don't want to bring up topics like relationships or marriage this early, but I think she probably realized that I like her. The reason we initially met was actually to talk about possibly working on a project together. But we decided to drop that idea because she said her new job will be very busy and I probably wouldn't be able to find something suitable for her in the project. Even though the project idea is off the table, we're still meeting and talking.
I try not to make my feelings too obvious, but I think she might have noticed anyway.
So on Friday we're basically going on something like a date. It will probably be the first time we can sit somewhere comfortably and talk for a longer time. I'm wondering whether I should invite her for coffee or suggest dinner instead. I'm definitely planning to pay the bill. If she offers to split it, I was thinking about jokingly saying we can celebrate her first paycheck from her new job next time.
Another question I have: should I offer to pick her up and drop her off with my car, or would that be too much for a first date? I'd like to do it, but I also don't want to make her uncomfortable.
Do you think I should just focus on getting to know her better for now, or should I try to make my intentions clearer by asking questions about relationships and long-term goals? What kind of boundaries should the conversation have?
I know it's still very early to say anything serious, but I honestly like her a lot and I would like something to develop between us. I just want to make the right moves and not mess things up. Do you have any advice?

And then I worked in a video store and everyone said I was gonna be the next Tarantino cos he worked in a video store too and I was like him. My boss kept saying I should make movies and I was like are you trying to groom me dude, cuz I don’t swing that way guy. Just letting you know. I’ve met you Hollywood types before. Then my coworker Jack Black started saying I should totally be in movies on account of how much I reminded him of Tarantino. And I said are you trying to groom me dude, cuz I don’t swing that way guy. Just letting you know. Then my other coworker Kevin Spacey said I should totally be in movies cos I was like Tarantino, but good. And I said are you trying to groom me dude, cuz I don’t swing that way guy. How exactly could you make Animal Farm, a fairy tale about the dangers of letting pigs run a farm instead of humans, out to be some kind of anti-communist parable? You'd have to be pretty sick in the head to twist a harmless book like that into some kind of political tract.
