The point is the recipient sees it. If you don't see the point, that's ok, but it's self evident to me.

But you're right about the staff. It would have to be invisible to them too or it's not workable. This is the most aggro place on the internet I regularly visit, and I generally avoid contentious topics, so I forget how fraught things can get here.

This doesn't address the issue with your idea: people will just give likes to posts that dunk on each other or are endlessly combative. The whole point of the system is to try and reward people who are actually having fun or doing cool things, it's meant as a way to try and stop people from constantly being at each other's throats and instead have fun together. The problem is that most of the posts that get suggested are literally just dudes dunking on each other in contentious topics. Your suggestion would just be a way to reward the very behavior everyone constantly says they want to see less of.

And before some fool decides to jump up and down on my head, yes we are actively talking about the other thing.

All that said, we have been getting a myriad of complaints from Jewish users, even those who feel the Nazi comparison is apt and shouldn't be banned, that some of the rhetoric users have been pushing has been inching uncomfortably close to bigotry, if not actually crossing the line.

The debate about likes keeps coming back because the debate about this forum being an incredibly hostile place even for casual video game opinions keeps coming back.

And while the likes debate has been definitively settled (B-Dubs is never doing it), the debate about what to do about hostility has accomplished absolutely nothing. All as the forum grows increasingly hostile and more and more members who used to post quality threads and posts abandon it.

The likes themselves are secondary to all this. If you fix the hostility and find some other way to actually promote positive, quality interactions, the likes discussion will stop as well.

I imagine people just keep suggesting them because it's something everyone is familiar with since they are a core feature of most discussion forums I'm aware of (including every Era successor/splinter forum I k
now of).

While I could offer my two cents on the matter, I noticed when doing my own research on the film that there was a distinct lack of reviews from one of the film's target demographics: kids. Granted, this is largely due to writing competency issues and child labor laws, both of which are extremely fair reasons, but this lack also presented me with an exciting opportunity. Rather than give you my take on the film, I decided to ask my Mario-enthusiast son what he thought about it.

For background, my kid, unsurprisingly, loves video games. At this point, I think half of my paycheck is just funneled over to Nintendo. He adores Pokemon and Pikmin and has the plushies to prove it, but above all else, he adores the Mario brothers and their various adventures.

At the age of four, this guy has already beaten Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Super Mario 3D World, as well as made a decent-sized dent in Super Mario Odyssey. I fear it won't be long until he's better at platforming than me, and I'm only half kidding. All this to say, I think he's more than qualified to provide you with a comprehensive review of the film. So, if you're wondering if you should take your kids to see The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie this weekend, here's my four-year-old kid's review.

What I don't get is how they missed Jennie's character here. She was abused as a kid, has clear trauma. All unresolved. She is very flawed. Like that's the point.

I'm not "asking" for suffering. It may be wise for other countries to rethink their alignment with the US/Israel/western hegemony in the region, lest they continue to risk these things. It's regrettable any innocent civilian has to suffer, but actions have consequences and it's up to world leaders to mitigate these things.

And America should only be allowed back into the fold if they pay worldwide reparations for this. If it ends in bankruptcy, then America should willingly offer parts of the country's infrastructure to them instead.
