Once I was somewhat flabbergasted at all these "talking heads" like her and, well, everyone else these days, and where their qualifications on anything come from other than the fact that they just talk so people assume they are saying important things. How anyone could decide to listen to streamers or even YouTube essayists is something I've pondered. They're annoying, really unfunny and horribly ignorant.
But I've done more reflection on those "thought leaders" of the past. They were basically all like this. Nearly everyone ever employed by the New York Times as a columnist is just this. They're just some dude who people let write so now his opinions "matter" somehow. I love Buckley obviously but he too was just a dude who started his own magazine so he could publish his writing.
Streamers or "talkers" like Grey are just this with swearing. At least WFB and some others are actually well read, including sometimes about the topics they're talking about. Nowdays I find I struggle to figure out these people are even trying to say about whatever they're talking about for hours and hours. They have no curiosity, they come to every topic fully "informed" and ready to show everyone their mastery of everything. It's not new, that's David Brooks career. It's just a change in style.
I bet if I studied pamphleteers more from back in the day, I'd find the same thing. Yeah, James Madison wrote the ones we all know but I bet there were like thirty of some dude talking about how the Zionists are trying to use the Constitution to create a bank to hold their blood gold in and those just didn't survive into later times.
