Goyer wrote the original draft, Snyder "wrote" with Terrio on the final draft (from what I understand Snyder rewrites scripts more on set, Terrio would have written the screenplay as typically understood), then the later two wrote Zack Snyder's Justice League. The Ultimate Edition of BvS is the "correct" one, especially since it doesn't cut out Clark's plotline. Terrio discusses some of his changes to what Goyer must have wrote in this interview: https://archive.ph/DA2ou
Affleck is the one who brought in Terrio and probably essentially protected him until he and Snyder hit it off:
BUT the overall arc of the five films was Snyder:
1. Superman becomes known to the world through Zod. (Man of Steel)
2. Luthor manipulates Bruce into trying to kill Superman, who dies a hero, while Bruce also discovers the other heroes. (BvS)
3. Steppenwolf signals the existence of Darkseid, Bruce and Diana gather the others and bring Superman back to life to form the Justice League. (ZSJL)
4. Justice League fights Luthor's Legion of Doom, Darkseid arrives, kills Lois and corrupts Superman then kills Diana. (JL part 2)
5. In the post-Anti-Life Nightmare, Batman forms the group seen in epilogue of ZSJL who does some stuff to have Flash send a message back in time so that Bruce sacrifices himself in Lois' place. (Bruce not having told anyone what he intends to do.) Her son (depending on the version the son is either Clark's or Bruce's) late becomes the new Batman and that later Justice League ushers in a new utopia or some shit. (JL part 3)

I obviously liked BvS (Ultimate) at the time but ZSJL made me love it after you can see the next part of Bruce's (and Diana) character arc. He's come back from the brink of madness in BvS and has to become a leader to a team in order to even have a chance against Darkseid. As he says multiple times to Alfred, he has to have faith in them and especially Clark, or everything he's done with his life is worthless. There are no heirs (not even Robin's), there is no family, Gotham will wash away his "legacy" as Batman in no time, Darkseid is an actual evil god, etc. He thought saving the world from Superman was it, but it's putting his faith in Superman and others (including the Joker and Deathstroke) to fight a greater and true evil. (And obviously, Snyder makes him sacrifice as the last step in copying the plotline of Excalibur.)

Quote:Can we start at the beginning with Zack? You worked on Batman v Superman. Can I assume that was a good experience, at least with him, since you signed on to another movie? You can see in some of the SnyderCon panel stuff that Terrio and Affleck had basically the same idea for Batfleck and that's why Affleck threw his weight around to bring him in for both BvS and the then Batfleck movie. They really took seriously the idea of what would an older Batman really be like mentally and personality wise since he's had as much, if not more, trauma since becoming Batman as he had from his parents killing.
Ben [Affleck] called me and said that he was working on this film, which was a Superman film in which he was going to play Batman. So he asked if I would read the script and consider doing a rewrite. He asked if I would do some character work. So it was already determined and storyboarded that Batman was going to be trying to kill Superman and that Batman was going to have gone down a dark road. He was branding criminals, and it had certain dark elements that were nonnegotiable and already in the story.
What did Affleck want you to do?
My job was to create a story and a tone, really, in which Batman could be that person, and in which two heroes could get to the point where they’re fighting to the death.
What was your approach?
I came into it thinking the only way that this could work is as a fever dream or as a revenge tragedy. I thought, How do we create a story in which Bruce Wayne is traumatized by the war of Krypton coming to Earth, and in which he enters into this kind of madness? He becomes Captain Ahab, and he won’t listen to saner voices, like Alfred, for example, who are telling him to just see reason. He’s a man possessed.
