I'm not sure what the right move here is to be honest.

Erdogan has created a system as it exists in China, Egypt and Russia. Religious, political, judiciary, military, economy. You can replace the leader but it seems to late to change the system. Even an attempted coup by the NATO aligned airforce couldn't make a dent nor did it get any backing from other NATO states. 

Any uprising by force would likely lead to civil war. Any meddling in its affairs would split Turkey from NATO or reignite the war in Syria.
Most of these countries were only democracies when it suited them for appearances and foreign aid. 

If you want to change it you'd have to convince Putin to retake Constantinople. 

And being "Free" like the west is no longer as good of a deal as it once was.
