I wanna know why no one likes Only God Forgives? 41% on rottentomatoes, 37% user reviews...like, what happened here.
I've watch OGF twice before even looking at reviews. I just assumed it was rightfully lauded and universally celebrated. People are complaining in reviews about...relatable characters? I thought it was obvious that the movie was intended to be understood largely metaphorically. These aren't characters so much as they are concepts with arms and legs, and we get to watch them bounce off of each other.
It's funny, because I thought the invincible extralegal thai supercop who looks like someone's depressed uncle and wields a magically appearing machete made that point too clearly. I guess not!
Let The Right One In. It's a good film but there's a LOT missing. Characters, plots, relationships. Even timelines are messed around with. I know adaptations often have to cut things but there's a bunch of important events that are either glossed over or not in the film. I'd say watch the film first, then read the book.
Let Me In. There was a lot of snobbery when this was released. People said it was only made because Americans are too dumb and lazy to read subtitles. TBF it came out very quickly after Let The Right One In, and if you didn't know the source material it would be easy to view it as a lazy cash grab. But it isn't. In fact, I'd say it does a few things better than the first. The character building is better. Bullying is a major part of the book and this goes into that a lot deeper. The relationship between Abby and her helper is more fleshed out. There's also a couple of smart twists and little updates in there. There are still major plot points, characters and things missing. It's understandable why there's certain areas neither film wanted to touch. I remember reading one part and thinking, fucking hell that's a bit strong. This kind of goes near it but does a good job of providing an alternative. I'd recommend watching Let The Right One, reading the book, then watching this.

Many people watched The Neon Demon and didn't recognize it's a faerie tale, or at least meant to be understood metaphorically. It's reality but recontextualized.

Send Help. Fun. It doesn’t feel like a Raimi movie until it starts ramping up and then it definitely does.
I enjoyed Mike and Nick and Nick and Alice, ostensibly a time travel movie with comic mob elements. It's dumb fun, with a surprisingly nuanced pair of performances by Vince Vaughn.
Also watched Julia Louis-Dreyfuss in Tuesday, a magical realism drama centered on a dying girl's relationship with her mom, and Death personified as a parrot. It was fantastic. Will watch again.
I'm re-watching the Daniel Craig Bond sequence, finished Casino Royale, and am midway through Quantum of Solace. I understand that these post Jason Bourne films were re-grounding Bond in a more believable world, but why are the villains such fucking DWEEBS this time?
Dominic Greene and his bowl-haircut brother are incredibly hard to believe as hardcore powerbrokers. They're more like the kids who had their lunch money taken from them.
I think the point was before the rewrites that these Spectre guys were hidden in plain sight. Bankers, business men, philantropists, scientists, politicians etc. . They weren't immediately identified as bad guys. They dropped that after Quantum of Solace.
I watched the Anaconda film with Jack Black the other day. It was pretty fun for a Netflix movie. Also downgraded my Netflix to 1080p this month and I honestly can't tell the difference between the 4k sub and the 1080p sub apart from the missing HDR but that is weak in these type of films too.

Watching some random zombie movie on the Dutch Netflix called Non si deve profanare il sonno dei morti.
Apparently an Italian/Spanish made zombie movie set in England. Got caught off guard hearing a movie quote that's used in an Electric Wizard album.
What are the odds?
When I finally watched Rosemary's Baby, that was eye opening. So many metal albums using words from that one.

The book is amazing
If this movie is good I’ll be a full on…Wes Ball, whoever that is, fanatic. I’ll go back and watch… Maze Runner The Death Cure.
